A quadcopter or quadroopter is a model of a plane with four spinning rotors, which are operated via a controller. The term “quadcopter” may have varied meanings in different fields. It could either mean “four wheels in a four-wing” or “a four-winged organism.” Regardless, of its precise meaning, a quadcopter is an airplane that uses four props for flight.
It is an important part of the military arena, used extensively by UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) to scout targets and broadcast laser beam guided weapons to kill or capture enemy soldiers and troops. Recently, these same machines have seen a great deal of civilian use. Today, many hobbyists and enthusiasts to enjoy the adrenaline rush and mechanical complexity of quadcopters. However, for those unfamiliar with this fascinating device, it can be a bit daunting to learn about these tiny machines without proper instruction. Luckily, it’s quite easy to learn how to fly one, thanks to new technologies now available to hobbyists.
Quadcopter are very popular with model airplanes hobbyists. These small, light aircraft are able to fly at speeds of up to ten miles per hour, and have the ability to hover over long stretches of land. In addition, these vehicles are capable of swerving rapidly to the left or right, and vertical flight. Although this may sound complicated, it is actually not. Thanks to recent advances in technology, these incredible machines are easy to operate and fun to fly.
While hobbyists may be interested in quadcopters specifically, there are actually several types of consumer grade quadcopters that are currently on the market. There are mainly two major types of quadcopters: military drones and commercial drones. Military drones are larger, more powerful, and are intended for use by the United States military. Commercial drones are used commercially by consumers who want the smaller, more affordable type of quadcopter. Both types of quadcopter are great hobbies for both experienced and new model airplane enthusiasts.
The military drone is the most commonly seen type of quadcopter and is designed to do specific tasks. Some of these are; surveillance, target shooting, or military dispatch. Consumer grade UAVs, or unmanned aerial vehicles, are generally used for a variety of other applications. Some of these applications include; telemedics (such as using these to help doctors remotely control their patients), weather tracking, remote operations, mapping, and surveillance.
The difference between a UAV and a drone is that UAVs can communicate with the human in control of the system; whereas a drone is controlled entirely by the computer system on the ground. It should be noted that there are some differences between the two, especially with regards to size and power. Consumer grade us are still very small, usually no more than 5 inches long, while UAVs used by the military are much larger and have powerful transmitters inside of them that allow them to communicate over longer distances.
The two main types of quadcopters are the remote-controlled and the hobbyist version. The remote-controlled model is commercially available; however, hobbyists tend to be more dedicated to building their own remote-controlled quadrocopters. As previously mentioned, there are two main types of quadcopter today. These are the fixed flight and the gyro-statically controlled. Each type of quadcopter has different characteristics; although, they all work together to complete a standard flight.
There are also a few different sizes of quadcopters, and these are generally between one to four feet in length. The largest ones are more expensive because they are designed for commercial purposes. However, most people who purchase these types of quadcopters are hobbyists and do so for fun. Generally, it’s not very hard to construct and fly a quadcopter because there are plenty of resources on the Internet for you to research this.
