Quadcopters keep getting more sophisticated and easy to fly, and Yuneec’s sleek Q500 Typhoon is the latest entry in a growing field of large quads with excellent cameras. It even looks like it escaped from a sci-fi movie.
But sharp looks aside, this flying machine has the goods where it counts: long flying times, a smart (“easy”) flying mode for beginners, auto return and landing, and best of all, a new 4K video/12mp still camera mounted to a gimbal that also allows the camera to rotate up and down on command.
The included remote features a full-color Android-powered touchscreen so you can see what the drone is recording and a full suite of customization that lets you fly and shoot like a pro. Did we mention it’s great looking, too?
Climb aboard as DT’s Rick Stella takes the Q500 up in the skies above Portland, Oregon in this review.
